ANIKAYA Dance Theater presents a special workshop for the Deaf community in conjunction with the creative residency for Conference of the Birds. The workshop will be conducted in an ASL, voice-off environment.
Boston Center for the Arts has commissioned ANIKAYA Dance Theater to create a major original movement theatre piece, Conference of the Birds. Integral to the creation of this piece are public story gathering and movement workshops with a focus on connecting the Muslim, immigrant, refugee and dance communities.
ANIKAYA Dance Theater invites you to contribute to the creative process of this new work based on the ancient Sufi poem, The Conference of the Birds, a magnificent tale about the human spirit and the quest for the divine.
Workshop participants are invited to move with an ensemble of dancers from across the globe and share stories about journeys, fears, and hopes through sign, gesture, movement, written, visual art or other communication. Elements of stories shared may be woven into the premiere performance in April.
All abilities are welcome.
